Inspirée par la fameuse peinture de Gustave Courbet, la sculpture matérialise l’image qui aujourd’hui pourrait manifester au plus près l’ « origine du monde ». Le Rayonnement Fossile a ainsi constitué le motif formel de la sculpture.
Ce fond diffus cosmologique, détecté en 1965 puis photographié par satellite en 2013, est issu de la lumière la plus ancienne de l'Univers émise 380 000 ans après le Big Bang, quand les protons et les électrons se sont combinés pour former les premiers atomes.
La pièce transpose en relief l’image de la carte satellite du ciel révélant la trace de ce rayonnement, composant un paysage aux courbes complexes et accidentées. Sa teinte rose chair fait directement écho au tableau de Courbet.

L'ORIGINE DU MONDE / THE ORIGIN OF THE WORLD

Inspired by Gustave Courbet’s famous painting, the sculpture gives physical form to an image that, today, might best represent the "Origin of the World." Cosmic background radiation served as the formal motif for the sculpture.
This cosmic background radiation—detected in 1965 and later imaged by satellite in 2013—originates from the Universe's oldest light, emitted 380,000 years after the Big Bang, when protons and electrons combined to form the first atoms.
The piece translates the satellite map of the sky—revealing traces of this radiation—into a relief, creating a landscape of complex, rugged curves. Its flesh-pink hue directly echoes Courbet’s painting.
